I was doing an design internship in this semester, I designed several works for different programs. Actually, in the process, I found my shortcomings in design works, to satisfy clients’ requirements, I force myself to study design courses online everyday. I was confident that if I do this internship well and learn design skill, I got accustomed quickly to my future job, and also, I learnt an extra skill in college, so I can have more job opportunities when applying jobs. Internship is very important to college students, it helps me learn more out of school, and apply what I learnt to reality soon.

When I got works from my clients, they have many requirements in most occasions, I had to do the design work with their requirements in mind, so in most time, most settings, I have no choices and not allowed to have my own ideas in the work. In the whole design, I had no inspirations, so it took me times coming up with initial draft .when I send my work to them, I have to revise and redesign several times to meet their satisfaction. Most importantly, as a designer, you have to accept your clients suggestions and not to deny them forever no matter how bad it is. Eventually, the design came up wasn’t mine actually.

I can learn a lot from this project. Every job is not easy to apply, I applied several jobs and then finally an organization chose me. You have to prepare well and show your perfect aspect to them. In doing my job, I need to communicate with different clients and make them feel satisfied with our works. Jobs is not same as study, you need to deal with difficult relationships in works and learn new things in the meantime. This project helps me focus on several things in the meantime, and deal with problems. The project tells me, we are living in a complex society,  when we get into society, it is not as fun as in school study, no one can protect us, we have to face and solve problems alone, even we will meet some tough people, never lose our enthusiasm towards life, we are always the best ones.

Design skills, in my previous years in college, I had few chance to  practice PS, AI, ID skills, I didn’t have related courses and enough time to work on it. I think, if we want to grasp some kinds of skills, we need spend time on it. In this semester, I use my rest time after class to design, without task, I will take online course, I spend most time working on my internship and practicing design skills, I’m sure after the whole semester working, my design ability will make great progress.

The primary problem I face is design skills, as I mentioned, I like design, but I just learn it on my own and not that professional. In my prior years in college, I didn’t practice it often,  sometimes I feel that my ability can’t keep up with other people in the organization.

Secondly, our jobs need to talk to our clients and explain the ideas to them, I always found myself can not express my ideas with exactly words, and understand their feedback and suggestions. This is because I’m not a native English speaker, Sometimes they don’t understand what I’m talking about.

To handle these problems, I speny a lot time taking online design classes, and practiced one item over and over again in rest time, I often talked with my group members and ask advices from them.

Before handing my designs to clients, I often asked my roommates play as clients, I explained my ideas to them, they can interrupt me at any time if they feel confused, after practicing over and over again, I made sure I speak fluently, then I would list my focal points on paper and deliver it to my clients so that they know more about my ideas and understand my expressions.
